1995 – VANISH extends services to Forgotten Australians

VANISH is asked by the State Government to formally extend its search and support services to Forgotten Australians (Care Leavers).

Forgotten Australians or Care Leavers are adults who were separated from their families as children and placed in institutions or various forms of out-of-home care, such as foster care and de facto adoption situations. Many were made ‘wards of state’. Some adopted people also experienced out-of-home care, either prior to being adopted and/or after being adopted due to the breakdown of their adoption. Forgotten Australians had already been coming to VANISH for search assistance and support for many years.
